Isn’t that the biggest question we all want answered when things are going off track? How do we keep moving toward our goals when we get discouraged? What keeps that spark of motivation and drive alive in us when everything is going wrong?
It’s two things I think.
First it’s a set of well developed and complete goals. By this I mean a set of goals that you review often, especially when things get difficult, not something on your computer or in a drawer that you never see again.
We need a constant reminder of where we are headed in life, or rather of where we want to be headed. If we don’t, we will get off track. It’s like a plane trip or car trip. You never take a straight line path to arrive at your destination. There are always turns and detours or course corrections that are required to arrive where and when you planned on.
Second, I think we need to keep reminding ourselves of our Why. Our Why is the reason we are doing what we do. It’s our reason forgetting out of bed in the morning. Keep this in front of you every day. It’s even more important than a daily goal review in my opinion. Why we do things is far more important than the actual path we take to arrive at our destination. Do we care how we get to end as long as we get there? Isn’t it more important that we take care of our family or change lives or whatever your Why is?
Do these and you’ll be able to pull out of any tailspin you encounter.
