Well, OK. Any time of the year is a good time to set goals. You don’t have to wait for the beginning of the year to do goal setting. But since many people do it that way because the new year is a great motivator and a fresh start, let’s look at goal setting.
I think goal setting is one of the most important things we can do in life. What most people don’t realize is that everyone has a set of goals already. Everyone.
I know, I know. You think that’s a crazy idea, don’t you? But it’s true.
Almost all of those people that you think don’t have any goals because of the life they live and the lack of drive in their lives? They are actually some of the most successful goal setters. Yep. It’s not that they don’t have goals, it’s that their goals are so simple and easy to achieve even they don’t realize they have goals.
Think about it this way. If you all you want to do is put in your 40 hours a week, come home and veg out in front of the TV, that goal is easy to reach. Maybe you just happen to like your life the way it is. You’ve achieved what you need to be happy. For others all they want to do is maintain what they have. Some are just too scared to try. All these examples are of the kinds of people whose goal is to have or keep what they have. And they are meeting that goal. Success!
OK. That’s a little snarky. I admit it. The point is that even you don’t have big goals, you have a goal. If you want to have more, be more or do more in life, but don’t take the time to craft a real set of goals, then your default goal is to maintain what you have. And that goal is one that you will achieve. So be careful aout the goals you might have, especially the ones you don’t realize you have.
