My subconscious knows what is IMPORTANT and what I need to be aware of to achieve my goal.
This affirmation is dangerous. When I found it amongst the list of Goals Affirmations, I was flabbergasted. Your subconscious mind absolutely IS a huge influence on your thoughts and daily life. There’s no question about it. However, to think that you can let your subconscious mind take care of things for you is simply lazy.
Since you have no conscious control over your subconscious mind at any given time, your subconscious mind is not rational, logical or methodical. It may influence you in a positive way, but it may also influence you in a negative way. Because your conscious mind and subconcsious mind are not really two separate things, after all you have only one brain, they work together in all things. What you actively think about influences the subconscious mind, and I belive what you feel influences it as well. Probably more so.
If you dwell on things that worry you or that you fear, this will signal your subconscious mind that they are important. That is its cue to give these things importance and consideration. I believe this is how we drive our subconcsious mind to focus on things. This is one of the most important reasons that some motivational thinkers emphasize affirmations and visualizations and regular reviews of your goals. It’s not to keep you motivated so much as it is to help keep your subconscious mind focused on the things you want to do and achieve.
If you presume that your subconscious mind will know what’s important, you are correct. However, what it determines as important is based on what your conscious mind is thinking and feeling to a great degree. It is heavily influenced by our dominant emotions too. We may focus on our goals, but if we also have a large dose of doubt and fear, the doubt and fear will often win out in influencing the subconscious mind. That’s why so many who go through goal-setting and creatingh plans to achieve success do not execute and make that success a reality.
Your subconscious mind may know what’s important, but it isn’t always right.
