Mission and Mission Statements. More jargon and meaningless phrases, right?
Wrong. But you knew I was going to say that, didn’t you?
Your Mission and Mission Statements are part of the Success Hierarchy. That’s your Values which is the foundation of your Vision. Your Mission is the vehicle that gets you from where you are to where you want to be in life.
A mission is more about what you do and how you do it, not who you are and what you have. Ideally, you will have an idea of what you want to do to get you to your Vision. If not, that’s something that can be clarified over time. Maybe your current Mission is to figure out what your long-term Mission is!
If your Vision is to serve people who don’t have access to any real modern healthcare, then your Mission might be going to be to go to medical school and joining Doctors Without Borders. The Vision is serving people. The Mission is to be a doctor in a specific situation, with Doctors Without Borders.
Vision is the what. Mission is the how.
